Female Prostitution And Victimization A Realist Analysis

Prostitution is a subject that many are divided on. Some believe that prostitution is never justified, and those who choose to sell sex are â€Å"bad people†. Others do not really care about prostitution as they do not see it as a real problem. Where one falls on this spectrum can depend on a variety of factors, such as morals, the community, family values, religion, and the laws on prostitution. The three articles discussed argue that through the regulation of prostitution, more people would be tolerant of prostitution, as law is one major way that people categorize right from wrong. The first journal article is â€Å"Female prostitution and victimization: A realist analysis† from International Review of Victimology 2015, 21(1) by Roger Matthews. This article argues against the liberal view that prostitution is a victimless crime. The liberal view believes that prostitutes are simply labours providing a service, and they are no different from any other worker in another occupation (Matthews, 2015, p. 85). Although this view may hold true in a perfect world, this is not often the case. Sex worker are highly victimized in various ways. Therefore, prostitution is not victimless because the worker suffers. Many sex workers have a lack of choice when it comes to their work. They are pressured or threatened into doing things that they do not want to do (Matthews, 2015, p. 86). Violent Pornography Is An Example Of Illegal Pornography

There are three types of pornography. There is soft core, hardcore and illegal. Violent pornography is an example of illegal pornography. Violent pornography is defined as sexually explicit material that contains consensual, coercive and violent sexual actions portrayed by men and women. It is morally right for people to sell and use violent and degrading pornography. People should be able to allowed to view violent pornography in privately. It is not affecting other people if the person prefers to watch that type of pornography. If the government censors what people watch, it would go against the First Amendment rights. The First Amendment guarantees freedom of speech, religion, assembly and expression. Freedom of expression is described as when a person is obligated to freely express themselves in whichever way that they please. The government is not allowed to interfere with that right. The right to view violent pornography is under a freedom of expression. It is artistic expression in which actors are allowed to freely express themselves when in comes to their sexual experience. The government should only be allowed to censor material for minors. Minors should not be allowed to view explicit material for the sake of corrupting their callow minds.
